The Western Amateur Golf Championship comes to the historic North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Monday through Saturday, August 1-6. The top amateur golfers from 34 states and 9 countries will compete with 2011 winner, David Chung, who is returning to defend his championship. Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are all past winners of this prestigious tournament. Admission to the event is free. Bring the entire family to enjoy some excellent golf. Since 1973, the City of Evanston has presented the annual Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival, which takes place on the city's lakefront at Dawes Park. The festival showcases live jazz and classical music, a silent art auction, the popular Children's Craft Tent and a dozen food choices. Come enjoy soaring stunt kite performances by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois, all set to music. Attendees may bring and fly their own kites in the designated "Kite Festival" area between performances. Kids can also make their own paper kites at workshops throughout the weekend (11 am - 2 pm) and kites will also be available for purchase. The free Kids' Mad Dash rewards the first kids to get their kites built and in the air. For more information, click here. For the fifth year since its smash debut in 2007, Skokie's Backlot Bash will once again offer area residents an action-packed downtown summer street festival! This year marks the 27th anniversary of the acclaimed American Craft Exposition, one of the most renowned craft shows in the nation. Sponsored by the Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem at Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals, this prestigious exposition showcases the work of the country's finest craftspeople and features one-of-a-kind pieces, museum-quality collections, and uniquely creative artwork. All proceeds from the event will support ovarian cancer research at NorthShore University HealthSystem. Hours are Friday 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.
